Cyst
Anyone got ideas on how to help my Zebra Eric and his head cyst? He is about 4 months old now.
I moved him out to a cage in another room by himself for some "quiet time", but he is starting to appear sleepier.
I also just washed some blood off the bottom area around his neck

Re: Cyst
http://www.avianmedicine.net/ampa/43.pdf refer to page 1183, there is a chart that describes cysts found on the head and what causes them. Then scroll to page 1187 for some possible solutions. The bird may have a sinus infection...have you treated him with anything?

Re: Cyst
Thanks Cindy, great info. I thought about trying to excise it myself but got worried. Doubt if it is nasal related as it is on the back of his head.

Re: Cyst
possibly a feather cyst....they have a whole section on it in the the file I posted..interesting. If you do try to relieve it...I would use an antibiotic afterward. Personally I would be afraid to. If it is blood filled he could bleed out, can you take a picture of it?

Re: Cyst
Too late tonight, birdies went to bed. I'll try to get a good pic tomorrow after work. Thanks for showing interest Cindy.

Re: Cyst
my white male has something under his feathers on his low back - I can't see it but it doesn't seem to bother him - I noticed it becasue after bathing yesterday he was preening and his feathers were ruffled and I saw a dark spot - it looks like a little scab, a small cut or a wound maybe ? they do bicker wth each other occasionally - anyway it was bleeding a little when he preens - his feathers are a bit discoloured on his tail now, I'm not sure what to do - should I interefere ? they get so stressed when I try to catch them - he is very happy, singing and bouncing and eating normally, he appears not to even know it is there - will it heal by itself ?
