Just a pair of budgies. Don't know what colors though yet. I'd like to try my luck with some hookbills, and I thought budgies would be a good first choice.

budgies can be amazing birds but they are very loud and IMHO kind of obnoxious. i used to enjoy them but i got irritated really fast with the noise and the constant fighting {them with each other and me with them}. i had a sky blue budgie a few years ago that was amazing, he used to follow me around the yard and house, he used to climb up my leg onto my shoulder and he was an all around amazing bird. sadly he passed too soon from a sickness i could not forsee. i dont think you should not get them but maybe you should get something else like bourkes or cockatiels. but of course your choice.
good luck

I was considering cockatiels, but if I am successful with budgies I have a market for them. The local petstore would buy them. I used to have budgies and they are loud, and the females never shut up! It sounds like they are scolding somebody. But I do love them

IMHO cockatiels would prove to be far better pets, they are less flighty, WAAAAAAYYYYYY quieter and like to be with you. i got insanely irritated with all the noise, it took the fun out of it. if you get budgies make sure and i mean 100% sure they are no older then 3-4 months and of course less is better because when you get older birds they seem way less happy to be with you and are a test of patience to train. i sold mine 2 months ago but when i had them i had a young male and an older female, so the male was starting to settle down and tame but the female being way older was wild, so everytime i tried to take the male out she would panic and start flying everywhere and screaming so he panicked too so i would always have to GRAB him out and take him to the other side of the house downstairs to where he couldnt hear her having a panic attack because that was the only way he would relax. when they argue its a LOUD crack crack crack noise that drives me up a wall.

I must have the quietest budgies ever...or maybe they are just compatible

They make chirps and kissy sounds... even the begging chicks are very quiet...especially compared to the gouldians. The only time I hear the budgies squawk is when I catch them. Maybe it will be different once they aren't breeding???

Idk Candace you are lucky lucky lucky. When the budgies are compatible they tend to be silent but they need to be very compatible and in breeding mode I think they are quieter. Did you have them together for a long time since they were young?. Never have I had quiet budgies except once a long long time ago when they were very compatible.
