Pairing up a male and female Green Singer

Post by anettstewart » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:27 am

I am a newbie on the forum and with Green Singers! I just love the male's song! I'm pretty sure I have a female, too. She's been in a cage alone now for a week with no song, just chirps. She does have a necklace, but I'm not sure of her age.

If I put them together in a cage, will the male stop singing? I would love to breed them! Any advice will be helpful! Thank you!

Welcome to the forum! :-)

Sorry, I can't help. But I just saw that nobody else responded to your post. Maybe you can repost it the Species or Breeding forum, instead of in Health. Seems to me more like a Green Singer specific question, related to their breeding, and somebody should be able to answer your question...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

I have 8 Green Singers (GS) and the males sing with their mate, but not as often. My juvenile males are in a cage with one nestmate and two of the four sing all the time!! Enjoy. I love my GS.

Suspected hen, but sings small and short melodies. Not sure if this one is a male, but at almost 7 months still has the necklace.

GS male 3 months old. Great singer.

The male should continue singing even when a female is around. I have several pairs and my males love to sing even when they have females.

Thank you for all your help! I intend to put them together and see what happens! But that presents another question, if by chance I have 2 males - will they sing?

Yes, they'll still sing. I have two males in a cage together and they sing all the time.

Great! Thank you for your replies! Right now they're getting used to one another - they've been pretty quiet - hopefully the singing will restart soon!
