Society with hurt wing; cant fly.
When I went in to feed my birds this morning I noticed my male society on the cage floor. He kept trying to fly but couldnt so he's been resorting to climbing the side of the cage to get to perches and dishes. My only guess is he must have got spooked by something and hurt his wing on the cage. I didnt want to catch him in fear of hurting him further. I'm unsure of what to really do at this point because I have never had something like this happen in all the years I have had birds. Will he ever be able to fly again and is there anything I can do? please help.

My GS hurt her wing in the cage door once. We took her to the avian vet and they gave us Metacam for pain and swelling. They told me her soft tissues were sprained and to give her some time and heat. After about four days, she started to use her wings again and now she is flying. Try some heat and give an antiinflammatory, like Metacam 0.01cc to the beak, for pain and swelling. A good sing is the Society is climbing the cage and has energy etc.

First what I would do if he is still at the bottom is put a heat lamp on him, place his food and water on the cage floor where he can get to it easily. He will need his strength to heal so conserving it and making it easier to find his food an water within reach will help.
It is important to look at the wing, see if it is cut, any little bone sticing out, see if he is injured elswhere. It could just be a soft tissue injury and with time and heat he will heal. Soft tissue injuries take a bit to get better (a week usually) so hopefully that is all it is.
Take a look and please post what you find so if it is something more we can help you help him.

I checked him over really good. He's not bleeding anywhere or have any bones protruding out anywhere so hopefully it is just a muscle strain and not something serious. He was only on the cage floor this morning when I turned the lights on but since then he has been perching and getting to the dishes fine he just uses the side of the cage to help him climb but I put them at the bottom of the cage and a perch as low as possible for him. I will keep everyone updated on him.

Keep a heat lamp near him, it will help him feel better.
