Ugh oh. I have a sick society. Oat is all puffed up with his eyes closed. I have some heat going and some meds. I'm worried about him.
He was fine yesterday and then he took a bath. He got himself all good and soaked. He looked terribly cute. Maybe he caught a draft? He sounds like he has a cold when he tries to sing. He's not eating a whole lot either.
The stupid thing is I just took off the 8in1 bird protector that everyone was bashing.. I don't think it's conncected though.
And the other finches have not stopped chirping since this morning early....I love how they sound but it's been nonstop for 3 hours now.
I wish I could stay home today and watch them.

Ok, I'm confused as all heck here.....is it possible for a bird to recover in just a few hours?? He was out...I mean I thought I was gonna come home to find him not so alive anymore....but when I got home..much to my happiness..he appears fine!! YAY!
But is that normal for a bird to get sick and bounce back within a few hours? A very unexpected but pleasant outcome
Sorry for the freak out, but I really thought he was in for it.
Thanks for the thoughts and prays..maybe they worked haha

I have had birds recover overnight, but I have also lost them just as fast. It is such a guessing game when they get sick--I very seldom know what happened with them.

It really could be anythin. Just like people sometimes get an upset stomach for a few hours for example. At least he is doing fine now.

I'm putting some light on him just in case...I'm still worried a bit.
A question about that..I read about full spectrum light being the best. All I have right now is a 60watt bulb, so it isn't too warm for them and I was careful to it on one side of the cage so as not to roast them...is this okay or am I doing more damage than good?
I would assume that the mild heat would be sufficient for the time being.

I should think that would work for now...as long as they are able to move away from the heat when they want.

They seem to be happy with its placement....should I leave it on overnight?
By the way, thank you for your input

Lyderbug...I think if you are sure the bulb won't over heat anything near the cage it should be ok. It might be a little harder for the birds to sleep but I would rather risk keeping the bird warm through the night in hopes he will recover better. Just my 2 cents worth.
Give us an AM report if you have time!

Oh Im so glad hes ok, And yes Ive had ones turn around FAST with a heat lamp, I ALWAYS have red heat lamps on the cages so they have access if they need extra heat,
If sure yours will be ok overnight, Ya might wanna try gettin a red one later, pet stores in the lizard area have them,
Im Really GLAD hes ok

I have a sick birdie to...She was fine this morning, but I looked later on and she is sitting on the floor breathing funny. When she tries to move she hobbles and she tried to fly and couldn't. She's a Zerba finch and her mate is really worried about her as I am to. Any idea what might be wrong or what I need to do? I don't want to lose her.

Have they been building a nest, or has she been laying eggs? When the hens are eggbound, they will sit on the floor, wings drooping down, all puffed up, usually with eyes closed. If that is the case, she needs a drop of liquid calcium in her beak, if you have it, and some heat.
In any case, she is sick and needs heat--it is one of the best things you can do. You can use a small heat lamp or even a desk lamp directed at one end of the cage, or you can wrap a heating pad around a small cage. She needs rest and quiet. I always put a small dish of water and one of seed on the floor so they can eat without too much effort, and I also put a small piece of spray millet on the floor to tempt them to eat. Let us know how she is doing.
