LOSS OF FEATHERS on the back only

I just noticed that my female GS has some balding on her back. it's not located in one spot it just looks like little spots all over her back. no where else. I know the GS courtship can get rough but how do I know. I haven't noticed any feathers on the bottom of the cage. one time the female came down to the same perch my male was sitting and he opened his beak but nothing else happend but a few minutes later he's feeding her food. and sometimes they sit on the same perch. I really don't know what to think. any suggestions.

The male may be pulling them for courting, or may be plucking her. Watch closely.

Sounds like your male is trying to mate or looking for nesting material.

Do you have a nest in the cage? If so you might want to supply them with bit of nesting material.

In the mean time offer boiled grated egg and the shell broken into small pieces, this will help to build the female back up so she can lay eggs and regrow feathers.

I have two different style of nest. canary nest and a regular finch nest along with some burlap and soft hair like nesting material. one hard-boiled egg in a blender shell included. millet, finch food and fresh water. some broccoli florets. my female is very nervous. she is constantly jumping from one perch to the next. back and forth. sometimes she calms down but alittle while later she's at it again. I don't understand her behavior.she will sometims sit next to the male and everything will be fine. so does anybody have any understand on finch behavior.

I agree with Cindy, if there's a nest you might want to check it as there you may find the missing feathers.
