I have 2 gouldians, 2 owls and 2 courdon blues in one aviary. I originall had only the gouldians and two months later I bought the owl and courdon blues. It was right after I added to the aviary I noticed right away that the coudons seemed like they were sick, puffed up, ruffled faethers and very sleepy. Then 2 days later the female courdon died. I then noticed the male was balding and the female gouldian was starting to do the same and being puffed up and sleepy. All the birds came from the same breeder. I am thinking ASM, so I treated with scatt, for my follow up treatment I bought permectrin. Should I remove all the feed and water dishs when treating with this, the directions for this is very limited even online. Do you think this is the problem? I have zebra finches as well, inseperate cages/rooms which I will also treat.
Anyone have any suggestions???

Re: ASM treatment
ASM symptoms most times are wheezing, clicking, raspy sucking, sneezing, coughing, open mouth breathing and excessive beak wiping. These symptoms can also be contributed to other illnesses so it's not a positive diagnoses. Puffing up and balding I wouldn't diagnose as ASM.
Permectin will do nothing for ASM but would be a good treatment for other mites and lice.
Here's a link to permectin II uses and directions, hope it helps:

Re: ASM treatment
Without any background, symptoms and/or knowing what they've been exposed to and/or already treated for (like wormer or antibiotics etc) I wouldn't even venture to guess what could be wrong.
Losing feathers could be from mites or a hormonal imbalance usually from over breeding. Puffed up and sleepy is the first symptom of just about every disease they could have.
First thing I would do is give them extra heat and high protein foods.
Sorry, wish I could be of more help but just treating with any medicine may cause more damage then good.

Re: ASM treatment
Any updates on the finches..?
I'm having a similar situation where out of the blue my gouldian hen got sick and died, and now her mate is sick...
Like yours, she was all puffed and sleeping during the day..
I suspected ASM because she had all the symptoms, but I wasn't quick enough to treat
I'm sorry for your loss
