That's a really good looking bird! (under the molt :))

My Gouldians haven't molted yet in my care, so I'm waiting for it!
One started sort of and I'm vacuuming about 30 feathers a day, and I too thought he was sick at first :)

I also read that their energy levels go down a little during the molt, and not to bed alarmed if they look lethargic - it takes a lot of energy out of them!

Good luck!

Thank you , I am rather fond of him also, His song is so different from my other Finches I just love him being so unique :D

Thanks for the warning about the energy levels also !! I haven't really noticed that but good pre warning just in case.

Being a novice Finch fancier there is so much to learn and I am Thankful for all your in put !! Everyone is so helpful =D>

I cant wait for the molt to be over and him get his color back, One reason I got him. I love the Gouldian for their color, and seeing it so dull like this makes a person worried if you didnt know what was going on.

Thank you.. I have been posting a Mug shot game on the cagebirdmenagerie facebook page... guessing the different mutations. I started it for customers that wanted to learn... they would come in and talk with me...and then this was a test... yet they would not put there answers down..Did they think I was going to give them a bad grade  They would call me and say is that one a Bh PB GB... and I would ask why they didn't post the answer.. they said they didn't want to look dumb if they got it wrong... Silly... anyway check it out if you would like...lots of gouldian pictures

Its a shame such a pretty bird looks so ugly during a moult and gouldians to me seem to have the worst moult. As stated eggs are good I use half a boiled egg to every fight shell and all. The commercial dry egg and biscuit I also have on hand in a container and I leave it dry. As for greens you can use any Green leafy vegetables such as bok Choy spinach ECT and give them 1-2 leaves every second day won't hurt but remember to wash them off and pat dry. Another point if possible allow direct sunlight to cage so gouldian can get some true light which will help with moulting his colou as well as calcium absorption.

Dan78 Thanks for the in put , And I agree its a shame they look so horrible in molt , I find to the point of looking really sick

My cages gets nice natural light for majority of the day.

I have all my birds on Egg mix and there usual premium seed. I will add some egg and greens now.
