I have two female zebras that used to lay eggs constantly. I reduced their light and the amount of eggfood they got, but they still continued. A few months ago, I switched their seed dish to a slightly smaller size, and it cut their egg production down to maybe one or two a month.

Dante, alot of birds need triggers to set them off, rich and plentiful foods is the basics but you'll find that some birds require more like weavers they also require longer days with rain which helps them think that there will be plenty of seeding grasses around. Siskins on the other hand like long days along with heat for there breeding. Gouldians like shorter daylight hours and not so much heat but alot of rain like autumn here. Zebs on the other hand just need a constant supply of food and temp doesn't matter as they will breed year round. When you look at how birds react to nature and when breeding starts and stops you can get an idea of how we can stimulate breeding and stop breeding by trying to simulate what happens naturally in nature.
