little zebra, fledged but very small

im worried about my little zebra, he came out of the nest, but he is very small. i hope he will be ok. i did put him back in the nest, he was just sitting on the floor of the cage. parents r still feeding him, any opinions?? thanks

that is normal fledgling behavior..if the parents are feeding him he should be alright...eventually they should encourage him back in the nest tonight.

thanks Cindy...........should i lower the nest to lower perch?? i dont think he could fly up at the height the nest is now

Sandy :? ps, the 2 former babies were much bigger and were on the perches in no time............

Hi Sandy...I had the same thing happen. 2 babies came out, 2 stayed in, and when they did come out they were small. They didn't go back to the nest for long periods of time, and I did lower the nest for them. They are still a bit smaller than the other 2, but they are eating and drinking on their own, so I think they will be ok. I keep hardboiled egg and boiled seed on the cage floor in dishes for them. Drinking on their own will be the last step in them being weaned. I learned all this from the great people in this forum.

I have never lowered a nest but do offer a separate roosting are across from the nest.

thanks Shantel and Cindy............i just worry :shock: i put him back in the nest for tonight, so mom dad and baby are all in there. i think i will try lowering the nest thanks again :)

ps ihave to look for a companion for my little Orange cheek.......i feel bad, she is alone. ill keep looking for another oc for a bit, then ill get a society if all else fails...

They should grow in size with time.
