I have done it, but you have to be careful. I use cuticle nippers and a magnifying glass that hangs around my neck, so I have a good view of what I am doing. I take off only a tiny bit at a time, working towards the top and lower beak matching up. Most of the time, the birds don't react while I'm doing this, so I'm assuming it doesn't hurt. If it was an extreme case of crossed beaks, I would have a vet do it.

I have a concrete mini pedi-perch made by Living World by each water tube, so the birds land on it when they drink. It helps with both nails and beaks, as they often wipe their beaks after taking a drink.

I finally put a terra cotta plant saucer in with my Cordon Blues and it has worked well to put their food into. That has kept their beak length down pretty well, as they peck at it to pick food off of the bottom. I had to trim them in the past, and this is so much easier.
