R.I.P. Sweet Archie

Post by carlamay » Tue Dec 25, 2012 7:14 pm

My Gouldian, Archie, who is my avitar under my name, passed away this morning. He acted cold, shivered some, and was puffed up with his head under his wing and ignoring all other birds yesterday. I put a heat lamp on him and he seemed to like it and even came down for seed once. Then I had to leave for Christmas and my friend checked on him last night - he and Veronica were on the perch and he seemed fine. This morning, he was dead. I hate it for my friend as it really bummed her out for Christmas and of, course, I hate it. He was such a great bird!
One thing that I wonder about...when I went to leave yesterday, 2 mice came out in the garage! I have has roof rats but never a mouse! I mixed up some poison and put it in 2 safe places in the garage. I have to wonder if one got into the house, the dogs went nuts and the fright was too much for Archie. My friend said there were overturned wastebaskets and "stuff" around the cages-I know one dog likes to get into paper and make confetti so it could be innocent. I am gonna really miss the little guy and his sweet song!
10 Owl Finches, 15 Pied Societies, 8 Color Bred Canaries and a blind Gouldian, Veronica
2 schnauzers, Herb & Stella
1 Sheltie mix, Mickey

not much time for a life!

So sorry you lost Archie, Carla. Unfortunately, we most often don't know what happened.
