Society with diarrhea

Post by adamharbeck » Sun Jul 20, 2008 1:22 am

My society hen has what appears to be a case of diarrhea. She preens her vent area but there is a significant accumulation of dried fecal matter and she continues to "bob" her tail. She doesnt look too comfortable, what can I do to cure her. My societies are fed on "blue ribbon" canary seed mix, spray millet and assorted edible garden weeds. All the other birds appear fine.

Aye, remove all the veggie stuff and try some grit in the diet, make sure the water supply is clean also.

dead society :(

I tried to catch the female out the other day but the design of the cage made it very difficult. I withheld all greens and provided spray-millets and finch seed only.

This morning I went out to feed & water my societies and to check up on my sick female. She pretty much fell out of her basket and tried to flutter aroung but didnt get anywhere. I picked her up off the floor and she basically died in my hand.

The remaining birds seem fine, with no wet vent areas. Should I give them some broad spectrum antibiotics as a precaution or just monitor thier health and see what happens?

Shame.....

Careful with medicines unless you know what you're doing.

Sorry for your loss. I used the 8 IN 1 Marvel Aid antibiotic for a few days with my birds just in case any were sick and they all did fine.
