Re: 3 week ok zebra being attacked by mother...not fed
I fed him all day, about every 2 1/2 hours and I finally seed food in his crop. I don't know what the problem was. I know where the crop is. I can see it filled full on the three babies. One side is filled much more than the other side, but at least I'm not worried there's a birth defect. Praying he grows some by tomorrow. Still the same size for 3 days, but he's alive and still energetic so it could be worse.

Re: 3 week ok zebra being attacked by mother...not fed
My little bird just died. He was eating fine and full of energy this morning. I went in to check him to see if he was hungry and he was on his back. I just held him, kept him warm. He had a full body seizure in my hand. I think he'd been having small ones all along. A minute or so later he died. I'm happy at least he got to experience a few weeks of life. He was a very sweet bird! I'm glad I got to learn some things in the process. I hope I don't have to handfeed any more, for their sakes. I hope the other three thrive! Thanks for all your help! C:

awwww
You did well given the sudden need.
Hand feeding is HARD.
I had to do it several times, and none made it past 4 days.
But, the next time you are at the pet shop, pick up some hand feeding mix...just in case you need it again.
I now have such an emergency setup
- brooder w/thermometer
- hand feeding mix
I hope I never have to use it, but if I do, I have it available.

So sorry to hear about your little one passing, you did what you could for him. He most likely had some underlying conditions and perhaps that is why the parents gave up on him.
Gary is right get a small container of KayTee handfeeding formula (do not get the one fro larger parrots, it is to course) Keep it in the freezer for the times you may need it in a pinch.

Re: 3 week ok zebra being attacked by mother...not fed
Thank you! It's a good idea. I wished I had it with this little one. I hate that I have to mail order every single thing, even some foods I eat! Makes me absolutely crazy! I'm used to big cities! I just looked at the 3 babies. One has a full crop, one has a tiny bit in it and one has absolutely no food in it. I will watch them but yesterday at least two had really full crops. These are young parents so.... I took the eggs out of the other nest, the one that is the same parents as the deceased baby. I think the mother needs more time. Only eight months old or so. Spring would be better. I'm not breeding them. They are pets really and so I don't want to take a chance on a lot of extra birds that have problems. I've really been blessed so far.

Re: 3 week ok zebra being attacked by mother...not fed
Thanks for all your help way back then! I had a lot of family drama going on, a couple deaths in my family. I reread my posts and it's a wonder any of you understood me at all! I ended up putting the baby in with a female that was never able to reproduce. She fostered it very willingly. The bird has some deficits, hops up a ladder to the water dish, and to eat, doesn't fly. Still it is a very happy little bird in with another fostered sister who loves her dearly. Not sure why she doesn't fly. Her wings look fine except they seem overgrown...longer than average but intact.
