Is it getting late in the year?

Post by SamFoy » Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:30 pm

I'm in central California and it's still pushing 100's by day and 60 - 70's at night. I will be wrapping my aviary in plastic by mid October due to the cold. How late in the year have any of you added to and acclimated a new bird to your outdoor aviary?

You should really keep new birds throughout spring and summer to slowly acclimatize...six or seven weeks isn't really long enough.

lucky me, I can add birds to my aviary year round. due to decent weather and the fact that any new birds I obtain are aviary bred & raised
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

I really want to try larger birds than finches, but I need to wait for next spring and the weather to change. Finches will always be my main interest - they have a personality that keeps on giving back. Acclimation plays a big part in this hobby, so I will respect it and wait. It would be nice however to live where weather is a friend year around. If you got, use it to your full advantage!!!!!!!!!

Do lucky people live longer? Just a thought.
