Please help - My stars beak has become deformed like.

Post by Mands » Tue Aug 13, 2013 1:33 am

Hi.

I got this guy about 9 days ago. He was perfectly fine.

Last night as i was putting them to bed i noticed a growth looking thing on his beak, i thought it might just be food stuck to it, but after looking this morning in the light i can see it is more than that. It has only happened in the last few days, so it has been pretty quick.

Help please, i am so upset.

Here are some pics, the best i could get.

I agree with Debbie. I definitely would seek a vet at this point. Is he still in quarantine? If so keep him there for now until a vet has a look at him.

this is a guide from ladygouldian.com on some beak disorders.

You could also forward a picture to ladygouldian.com and see what see suggests. Do let her know that you are in Melbourne, some of the products we use here may be a bit different that what you have available there.

Thanks.

I put him in with the rest yesterday. I waited 9 days, i know some people wait longer but i thought it would be OK. Lesson learned.

I separated him and cleaned out all the food and water dishes and scrubbed all perches etc in hot water.

He was fine then so this has happened less that 24 hours. I have shown a breeder who said it looks like scaly face, but now i just don't know, which is why i am asking you for your opinions.

I will email lady Gouldian now.

Thanks. And any more info would be great.

A very upset and scared for all of my birds.

Mandie.

I'm with Debbie, too - time for a vet visit. A vet can do a scraping and determine the exact cause of this so you can treat it right away with the correct medications/protocols.

Keep us posted?

If you bought him with another bird you may want to pull that bird from the group as well until you find out what this is and what treatment is needed.

Keep us updated, hope it is something easy to fix.
