How do indoor birds get mites???

Post by txstitcher » Mon Nov 18, 2013 3:23 pm

Probably a crazy question, but I'm concerned. I've had my finches for over a year and a half and all of a sudden I have mites hiding under the water dishes.

How in the world did my birds get mites? I want to ensure they don't ever get them again!

Thanks!
Michelle

Have you ever given them sprey millet? Sometimes comes with mites depending on the source. Bob

Oh No! Do I have to worry about the spray millet I bought at the Orlando show? Can they live in seed? What do they look like?

Yes, definitely could come from ANY food. I always put my feed (any feed, in a bat, fresh, or not, in the freezer for a full 48 hrs before I let them eat it.
