Moulting?

Post by saragoescrazy » Wed Jan 03, 2007 9:52 am

My male gouldian was like the most perfect coloured bird, and now his feathers all on the top of his head are turning to white pin feathers, and they're getting more and more as the days go on, is this normal?

And if so, how long does it last for? :-/ Is there anything I can do to help speed it along?

Yes, it's normal when they go through a hard molt.

Make sure they have plenty of eggfood at this time as they need the protein to produce new feathers. Provide them with bath water everyday as this will also help. AND give them either liquid iodine (not the kind you use for cuts & scrapes) or powered/liquid kelp.
