Full spectrum lighting.

Post by Harley2013 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 6:48 pm

What would the wattage be for finch cage for full spectrum lighting and how long? I have read different wattage, and time allotments such as 40 minutes a day, to 12 hours a day. I have read it differs from species to species, bird to bird, and to check with my specific species care requirements. Not very clear. It's funny though, but when I bought Harley from a breeder here locally, she never mentioned to me full spectrum lighting for him. That's odd.

I treat mine like indoor sunshine. I turn it on a few minutes after they wake up in the morning and turn it back off about a half hour before I cover the cage for the night. From what I've read, everybody has their own rules for lighting. I had a pet store owner tell me that it was only important for warmth (wrong). I figure they need a dawn period and a dusk period but everything else should be sunny skies.
