Discolored beak?

Post by MiaCarter » Wed May 14, 2014 7:29 am

I've noticed that Jackson's new girlfriend (no name yet) appears to have a couple of odd spots of discoloration on her beak.

At first, I thought she had a bit of seed on her beak, but whatever it is is actually on there for good.
It looks brownish grey in color (she's still shy and turns away when I tried to shine a flashlight to get a better look at the color.) There's a small spot on the driver's side and a slightly larger spot on the passenger's side.

It's not beak changing to its adult color discoloration either.

I've seen beak "bruising" in other birds, but this doesn't look like it's the case.

Her beak looks totally healthy otherwise. No odd peeling. No strange textures. Or any other strange things.

I've read this can occur due to malnutrition, but I'd be utterly shocked if she was deficient as I know this breeder and I see what she feeds them. They eat better then most humans. Of course, it's always possible she was picky and only ate a portion of what what offered. She seems to be eating nicely with me and I feed a very balanced diet with lots of supplements.

Any ideas?
