male gould wing flap twitch
Hi everybody!
I have a yellow male. Started doing this flap thing. Found a video of similar behavior. What's up?

Madcat -- Well that's curious, isn't it?
I've never seen it before - not in a gouldian or any other species.
But it's curious that you have a gouldian and the bird in the video is also a gouldian. So I wonder if it's a gouldian thing that I've just never seen!
It quite literally looks like a tic or twitch.
It's hard to tell if it's neurological (some sort of seizure activity or involuntary nerve twitch) or behavioral (under his control, like a tic) or physical (the result of a muscle spasm?)
When does he tend to do this twitching?
Does he have any other odd tics or neurological symptoms? (e.g. other tics, twitches, odd eye or beak movements, staring off into space, etc.)
If no other odd manifestations and he seems healthy and flies okay, I'd chaulk it up to something behavioral. Humans and other animals develop strange tics. I don't see why a bird would be immune.
I'll be curious if someone else knows what this is!

Re: male gould wing flap twitch
Looks perfectly normal to me and wouldn't worry about it.

MiaCarter. debbie276. Thanks for the input. Well the twitch flap thing is sporadic. I've even seen him do it at night. And I've never heard him sing so I treated him with scatt. Other than that he looks great. Feathers are great no scales on feet. He ears drinks normally. He just twitches. I haven't noticed anything else. I may takes a few moment in each day just to check him out more.

I thought he might be showing off for his mate. Maybe he's super proud of how awesome he looks! I too thought he looked fine.

Corkysgirl hahahah!! We'll I got him in May and he NEVER sang. Then I started noticing the twitch. So the other day I treated him with scatt. Now today I went to check on him and that little boogar is singing!!!!is that a coincidence? He is gorgeous. His head is bright red and chest is rich royal purple. (Yellow back). So you might be right! He could be a show off! I also read he may need calcium boost . I don't know...

I haven't seen that before but he looks fine otherwise. If Debbie thinks he looks normal, he most likely is. They all have their little idiosyncrasies; consider that his. (But let us know if something turns out to be wrong)

debbie276 would know if anyone would. Haha...he's singing! Yes, he's a male with beautiful feathers and wants everyone to know about it! If the wing flapping wasn't enough for them to notice, his beautiful song should surely bring attention to them.

Re: male gould wing flap twitch
I think that's part of breeding mode symptoms, I saw few of my males and females doing that when they start to enter in breeding season.
I wouldn't worry too much...

Re: male gould wing flap twitch
Madcat My new male gould does this all the time! Its similar what happens when he has a bath im not sure if its because hes hot and cooling off.
Hell maybe it just feels nice like a dog when they go carpet surfing!
Im sure it is his way of flirting, saying Look at me! Look at me!
