Ginene,

After hearing how this mite thing isn't contagious via dishes and must have close contact and not seeing anything on my Gouldians, I thought I was getting paranoid and didn't start treatment yesterday (as I did for my canary)

However, I thought how I'd hate to re-do this all over again, I went ahead to start Gouldian treatment. That thing on his leg, I just saw it this AM when I was putting s76 on it.

I went crazy here pulling all the extras out of cage and left minimum water and food with 2 plastic perches on each 2 cages. I feel for those who actually have tones of birds to treat .... esp if they have COD.

BTW all 3 birds have perfect beaks .... I don't see anything unusual. I didn't put s76 on any of the bird's beak because they all moved so much, I was afraid it would end up on the nostrils or eyes. Is there a trick for this? Wondering if I can put KD or s76 in bird bath for they to have it all over their beaks safely?

Sandra Ginene

If you have access to an avian vet, they can take a scraping from the leg and determine if there are scaley leg mites present. I'm going to merge this topic with the previous one on scaley leg mites in your canary for continuity.

OK...I would bring him to the vet, concerning the Scaley Leg an that growth (?) on his leg. This way you don't have to go through unnecessary treatment.

Also, Scaley Leg is only transmitted through direct contact, so if your canary never had direct contact with your Gouldians, it is unlikely they caught it from him.

I've already started the worst which is the cleaning of all perches, dishes and cages. So I will wait and see how the week goes.

I'll be keeping an eye on him.

Good luck Sandra. I am at the tail end of treatment and can't wait until I am in the clear :)
