My Zebra has a foot problem, please identify

Post by willertac » Thu Apr 30, 2015 7:19 pm

My newer and younger zebra has something wrong with one of his toes. I had noticed a few days ago that it was discolored slightly, but had thought he had just stepped in something dirty, as he was showing no signs of trouble. Today, I looked in on the birds and saw him hopping/limping. He flew to a perch where I looked more closely at him. His one toe looks like it has shrunk, it turned almost completely brown/black, and he often tucked the foot under himself when standing. He looks healthy otherwise, save a few missing feathers thanks to his cagemate, and even sings. It's just his toe, and that he is obviously bothered by it.

I don't know if this does anything but: he sits in the food cup for periods of time, he and the other zebra sit on the floor of the cage sometimes and play with the keychain holding the door shut, they chase each other sometimes, but not ending badly. They have a cuttlebone, a preening toy, a wooden toy, and two food cups.

Please help me help my little one :(

To better determine exactly what is needed and what is wrong, please provide an up close clear picture of the foot. A toe or foot that turns black generally mean he will loose that body part due to blood supply damage.

Please post a picture.

just a word of warning it the eyes of the chain are to small they can get toes caught in it and break or sever toes.
