RIP Little Hershey

Post by Sheather » Sun May 31, 2015 12:28 pm

My little Hershey-bird died today suddenly and with zero warning. He was in perfect health and my favorite of all my finches, with the cutest crest of hair and the sweetest personality. He seems to have fallen dead suddenly sometime late this morning out of the blue. He was only seven months old; I still have his parents and all of his grandparents. : (

No unusual droppings, injuries, chronic problems. Just alive and singing at sun-up, dead at noon. :(((

Oh no!!
I'm so sorry.
Such a little cutie pie. You've had a bad run. I know you just lost Jack.

I wonder what happened.
I hate it when they pass so suddenly. I know they're good at hiding illness, but still, you like to think you know your birds well and could detect that they're unwell. But it's just not the case.

Was there any small chance he could have been inbred? I've had a few whom I knew were inbred (not my own; adopted from others...though I've definitely had a couple scares in that regard! LOL)
They accounted for a couple sudden deaths. (Though they were middle aged; none so young.)

I wonder if he had some sort of defect since he was so young. Perhaps a bad heart?

At least little Hershey had a good life, full of love.

Rest in peace and fly free, little one. You are loved and missed.

Hershey's parents were half-siblings and he was part of an accidental hatching from a 3 month old hen and her year old half-brother, I hadn't checked nests figuring she was surely too young to be laying - until there were babies one day. I figured that accounted for this, but it's no less sad.

Sheather - Yeah, sounds like that could be to blame.

But agreed - no less sad. An "imperfect" genetic makeup doesn't make them any less lovable.

But at least you have some sort of answer as to what may have caused his sudden passing. It's the better of the possible scenarios. Better this than to have a contagious, well-hidden ailment that could affect others.

He was very handsome. Sweet little Hershey.

So sorry you lost this little cutie, I love when they have those "rugs" on their heads, it is adorable, and his coloring was beautiful too. I know you take such good care of your feathered friends, so I know he lived a good though entirley TOO short life while he was here, if you can take any solace in that. It's always hard to lose something you love, especially in this case where you've had him since egg. I'm so sorry you lost your friend, he was a beauty.
