Hi All. Just had a question. A friend of mine purchased 2 birds from a Pet store (not sure which one) back about a week before Christmas (a present for his Mom) one of the 2 that he bought died within a week, so I assume that one was sick. He soon got another one for the surviving finch, another female. Now, in June I spoke to him yesterday, and both birds have died (within the last month) I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. For a finch to only last 6-7 months. I thought this was strange. I don't know the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths, like if one died and they didn't get her a companion, or if they died together, I'm really not sure. However, I do know they were both females and they laid a LOT of eggs. My thoughts were that they didn't give them enough calcium, and maybe eggbound took them.... then I was thinking maybe they just all around didn't have the correct diet (seed only, type of thing) But I bought my birds around the same time, and I would FREAK if I lost my birds right now, or in a month from now.... I know my birds are well cared for (thanks to you guys) but I heard about him losing his birds and was really upset (actually this friend is the REASON I got my first pair!!!)
So, obviously not a big deal, but just wondered what some of the experts thought of this, I know there are a million reasons, and without info, you can't give a deffinate answer, but just wanted to hear any thoughts anyone might have, and see if anyone thinks the diet could have contributed to it.... Thanks anyone who will respond.
