I haven't posted in a long while but something has come up in the bird universe of my home.
My grandmothers Canary seems to have gotten twirling, it very much seems like it. she's twirling her head and hardly eating but drinking. I have her on an antibiotic. could this be anything else? I do realize that twirling is an inherited problem. but my grandmother is heart broken that her canary isn't feeling too well.

Re: Canary acting like twirling.
I've heard to could be caused by an inner ear infection.
Not a vet so I don't know if antibiotics is the proper medication.

I have heard the ear infection can sometime be caused by yeast so that would require an antifungal. Personally, I try not to medicate unless I know for sure what is required. If it is a fungal infection and you are using an antibiotic, it could make matters worse.
Any chance you could take the bird to an avian vet? How old is the canary?
Also - use a tube waterer. It is possible, if she gets worse or disorientated, for her to drown in a dish of water.

Re: Canary acting like twirling.
she seems to have come out of it with an antibiotic, so it seems that she may not have twirling. just twitching her head when she was sick.
she's not all that old, and I am a little worried about taking a bird to the vet because you have to travel and with that travelling I actually lost the bird in the process. it's a good Idea but travelling with these smaller birds are hard on their system when they are sick.
