lovezebs Do you use both at once? I noticed that one has more vitamins than the other.. I'm going to try and offer the egg shells and see how they like it in the meantime :P

@slwatson Cooper is back to her normal self for now. It was just a really huge scare for me. I look at her one minute and shes fine, and the next, she's rolling on the floor. I panicked and instead of grabbing for the camera, I froze.

@cindy For the Lafeber's seeds, is it the pellets or "granules"? & Oh, thanks! That's true too, I change the water every night so some of the vitamins might go to waste. The powder vitamin lasts longer right?

or this

Now, is it bad to give them the Lafeber's seeds, with egg, and vitamin powder? Is there a such thing as too much vitamins for birds? I mean, they don't eat it all at once but I want to make sure that its okay.

The Lafeber finch granules... http://lafeber.com/pet-birds/birdfood/finch-granules/

Powdered last longer... you will use very little on a couple of birds. The AviVita Gold is not used daily. If you are using the Lafeber's that is also pretty balanced.

Hi. I have been away for a couple days but back now. I am so sorry for everything you have been going through. Don't beat yourself up about freezing and not getting the camera. That is perfectly normal. I would also be more concerned about seeing what was happening and making sure the bird did not hurt itself.

Will your birds drink from a tube feeder instead of a dish? I am concerned that even a small amount of water could be lethal if she feel in face first.

LaFeber's does not recommend supplementing with its foods. You can overdose with some vitamins.

You said Mr Meepin did something similar at the same age. Are they related? Do they share the same food, cage, etc. Perhaps you should check the expiry dates on everything you give them. Do you have a 'Mite Protector' or something similar attached to your cage? If you do, you should remove it. These are NOT healthy for the birds. Vets hate them.

Please keep us updated.

Derk I've never tried a tube feeder with her, but without the bowl she won't be able to take baths. For now, I have the water bowl under her nest. That way, if she has an episode while she's on a perch or in her nest, she'll end up on the cushioned floor instead of the water bowl. I did the same with Meepin.

Alright, then I'll probably just get the Lafeber's Granules and whenever I place orders with LadyGouldianFinch, I'll grab the Miracle Meal and Finch Mix since they absolutely love it.

With Mr. Meepin, he passed out during one of his feedings at around 3-4 months. He went completely limp and fell off of my leg and onto the towel. He woke up a few seconds after and was completely fine. Nothing seizure-like as with Cooper though.

Mr. Meepin and Mrs. Coopin are brother and sister! They are from the same mother (not sure about the father though LOL since we did some switching of couples as they didn't know how to raise babies). I'll have to ask my dad about that one!

They live in the same cage with a grid wall separating them since Mr. Meepin gets a little plucky. They eat from the same supply of food and drink from the same water supply. Just different bowls. Nothing I have given them is expired. I asked Laraine from LadyGouldian and her Miracle Meal expires in 2 years (mine is only a couple of months old).

I don't have a mite protector or anything like that in the house. I read the forum (Forgot the name of the user, i think it was flymouse?) where she lost finches due to those. I never owned one and after reading that, I refuse to purchase one.

I'm curious, have any of your Dad's finches had any similar problems? Just wondering if there could be some genetic predisposition to some neurological issues in that line (? )

Re. The two different types of vitamins that I use, I do ulternate them, and I do put it in their drinking water, not their bath water. I use cold water in glass tubes for drinking water, and large Tupperware containers for their baths, with lukewarm water.

Hopefully it was a one time thing, and won't be repeated :-).

Good luck.

lovezebs No, none of our other finches have had anything like that which is why I didn't think it was genetic but it did look like a blend of a seizure and twirling at the time.

I'd love to separate their drinking from their bath water.. but Meepin would ignore it. He drinks from the same water he bathes in (lol i know.. but he does the bathing at night, right before I change it out).

I'm starting to not think it's twirling... she's on her swing perfectly fine right now (which I think would be an issue if she had twirling). Neither one of her parents have had episodes and she seems okay. I'm thinking its the vitamin thing even though she loves egg, it might not be enough. Who knows.
