And it may be that the ingredients are something you could do yourself from your pantry. Wouldn't need to buy his them, now would you.
Dr Marshall is a well know vet, has written books etc. I wouldn't say his recommendations aren't useful.

I bought quick gel for about $30.00. smallest size. When I gave it to one of my birds, he didn't drink the water. Even when I put clean water in that cup. I had to actually pour the water in the cup in front of him to convince him there wasn't anything in it. That was a waste of money. I needed to buy a magnifying glass to read the directions on the bottle. In case of adverse reactions, you need to know what they have been given. The ingredients should be listed.

Yup, that's a very common complaint when adding things to water like vitamins, vinegar and medications. Always be sure your birds are still drinking when treating through their water source.
Odd enough the Quik-gel lists the ingredients (sort of):
Ingredients: Complex Polysaccharides, Vitamins A, D, E. B complex & Organic Acid.

fluffydust, i think you'd be better using a Brita jug than the bottled spring water, you'll get them in Tescos or Argos. The water is also very hard here and i find the brita jug great for both water for the birdss and in the kettle for my morning coffee

Filtered water is fine, if unsure of the quality of your water you may want to consider having it tested. Here in the states our local Health Dept will do it or you can pick for free water testing kits at some of the home improvement stores for free. Do not know if this is a available where you live.
You can do the Apple Cider Vinegar (organic) instead of the KD once or twice a week if you want but start at a low level 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoon to a gallon. All mine accept it at those amounts, but will not accept it at 2tbsp. ACV has some other healthy benefits as well. It will do pretty much the same thing as KD but is mild. Sick birds with yeast get it daily for certain amount of days to kill off yeasts, internal GI parasites do not like it because of the acidic qualities.

Hmm
Some very interesting points. Oh I am worried, I just want to do what is best by my birds. The birds I have now are all in very good health and I believe I feed them a varied and balanced diet.
I have also bought some daily essentials 3 and calcivet, and I got a small bottle of aviclens I was thinking of using in their water and to wash their seeds in before this KD stuff arrived. (as I said, im being given some gratis)
I do also have acidophilus capsules I use myself, and I add a little of to egg food from time to time as their probiotic. I have 'fertivit' too I use when my breeding pair are building a new nest so see if it helps. They are a year old and haven't had a successful clutch yet, but im not concerned by that, they spend too much time chasing the dove and not enough just sitting on the eggs! I don't need to breed them, just let them to do it for their quality of life.
Wow.. not sure what to do now. Do I use the KD I get given when it arrives or not? Would it be ok so long as I give them the acidophilus?
Who knew those £4 each finches I bought in april 2014 would end up costing so much in medication and have such complex medical needs
but I don't care, they give me joy every single day. I take my animals seriously, like I said whether they are a £4 zebra finch, or an £800 eastern indigo snake! (and of course my Boogles the dog!)
All animals lives are as precious to me as my own, probably why I get so anxious about illness and what to do to keep them safe.
They like daylight bulb I got them recently. They prefer the infrared but that's so expensive to run!!
