Hi I am worried about one of my finches, I don't have vet around my home area. I've noticed the female zebra have some kind of breathing heavily and fast problems since a month ago. I don't know what to do because I try everything by provided calcium food and vitamins. Also put it under the sunlight for little than used heated lamp still nothing help her. She is eating ok but puff up all the time day and night with fast breathing. I also noticed that both her foot looks kind of purple like  is it one of the symptoms??? I don't want to lose my baby finch before Christmas and New year is here:( please help me out...any advices would be great, thank you very much in advance guys!

So sorry you lost her. I also lost a bird on Christmas day, it just doesn't seem fair, does it? These little ones hide their illness so well when they first start getting sick, and then when they show that they are sick, it is often too late to save them.

Thanks so much for all your kind words. I couldn't sleep and thinking of her this late, I've been raised her (after hatched) and start eating since 3 years ago, it's so sad to lose a bird like this :( I just want to know why her foot became purplish? I know it's late now but still wondering why so I can try better in case if more birds have the same problems again. It make me feels like she was having some air sacs problems or infection inside her? Recently she was eating more and more but one time I held her on my hand last week feel so light not weigh at all. Just curious if you know the reasons? She was breathing hard and faster recently then today......

Thanks for your advices.

Sorry for your loss.

There are a few different things that can cause heavy breathing that can cause such wasting, most common is internal parasites (you will see them constantly in the food bowl eating but wasting/going light), disease, fatty liver (you do not see wasting with this but you will see heavy breathing, the belly will have thick yellow fat deposits that are often visible). Yeast can also clog air ways an make it difficult to breath. ASM can cause heavy breathing and you can hear a ticking sound if it is advanced.

I would watch the others, any sign of heavy breathing, over eating, droppings change... undigested seed in the droppings, loose droppings.
