Brownish red poop--911

Post by Spreckles » Thu Feb 04, 2016 12:39 pm

My little flock flies free so I have no idea who is pooping brownish red poop. It does NOT look like blood. I saw one 2 days ago right in the sink. Today I found several. OK so how nervous am I? Considering I can't see anything in the room they could consume, or in their diet, pretty nervous.

No one is acting sick. No one is puffy. No one is on the bottom of the cage. Everyone is flying, chirping, singing, eating like pigs, and pooping. But someone is pooping weird poop.

WHAT DO I DO?

The 911 is for me the calm cool collected human nurse who is not calm right now. The absence of knowledge produces anxiety. It really is amazing how knowing what to do, and when gives one the calm ability to move forward. Experienced teachers speak up forthwith!!!!

Do you have pink or red dyed seeds in their finch mix?

I know we have green dyed seeds in ours, its Brody's favorite......so he always has bright green poop (and his beak is green from the dye too). Its rather amusing.

Are you feeding pellets? Pellets can change the color of the droppings to a rust or brown color.

What exactly have they been eating these last few days?
Anything new, anything different from the usual, any new veggies, fruits, seeds, treats with coloured seeds?

Nothing new. LESS millet. I did make egg food with farm eggs that have colored shells. The shells are crushed in the food. This food says no artificial ingredients or colors. Maybe the carrots or beets? Their poop is mostly white and yellow.

Hun, your image didnt show. Beets would probably create a reddish poop.

Can't see your pictures , Karen.

However, beets, carrots, and different colored egg shells, make me think that we just might have hit the nail on the head. *-:) *-:)
