I'm sorry you lost the little gal. =((

Yes , societies do get lonely without a buddy. :( This is true. But if you're introducing friends in a week or so, he should be okay until then.

What species are you introducing to the little fella? If it is 2 more societies, you will want to add a 3rd so you have a total of four.

Societies (as many finches) need a pal all their own. So even numbers are best.

Yes, it will be more societies, I believe she has two that I will be receiving so will need to get another to keep the numbers even, he seems okay this morning and not upset/distraught - though he was sitting at his little mirror a bit more than usual!

I'm so sorry about your little bird.

It is so difficult to say what could have gone wrong.... a tumor, a cyst, something he swallowed, an infection of some sort....

Regarding your lonely Society.
He should be ok for a week or two on his own, until you can get him a companion.

I would find some Society videos on line and play the sounds for him, which he may find comforting. Offer a daily bath, a swing, some silk or plastic plants, a mirror, just some things to keep him busy for the next few days. Talk to him, whistle, play some music on the radio.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

Well brought home a new little society girl (? pretty sure female give the two males clearly trilling and courting her in bird store) to keep my lone finch company, they seem to be getting along well and so fun to watch the dynamics between them! Unsure if my finch is male or female but I think maybe male? I will also be getting two more society babies from a friend in about a week as they are out of the nest and eating independently for about a week now! So excited!

I am so glad you were able to find a new friend for Fitz. They are both beautiful !!! They look like they are going to get along just fine. That is a very cute picture of their first meeting. I am so glad that you are enjoying them. :D

Sorry for your loss :(
The new one should be just fine with Fitz, as society finches are easily one of the most easy-going bird species. I once introduced two Gouldians and four chocolate self societies to a pair of fawn pied society sisters, and no one had an issue. If your society finches are anything like mine, they should be sleeping side-by-side within a couple of days.

They seem to get along well, my original boy is now happily nest building for them! Funny he previously slept in a really nice "woven tiki hut" nest that hung in the cage with his prev bird pal but now the new finch selected the plain basket nest as preferred housing and he hasn't gone back to the old (nicer) housing since!

JillM Even the crappiest nest is nicer with a friend in it. :o
