Deborah...the instructions on Ronex Extra Strength 12% reads 1 tspoon Ronex to 2 quarts water. You can safely use the powder at double the about to one times water, which is sometimes used in stubborn cases. If you are doing it a routine treatment single dose should be fine.

The 1/4 teaspoon is for larger birds that have a slower metabolism. 1/4 tsp is not strong enough for finches due to their higher metabolism.

1 Teaspoon is recommended for finches

Interesting that this is coming back to the 4x strength of the 6% Ronivet that was recommended when I got my Ronivet.

But I find it interesting that Laraine on her web page says she used 4x of the 6% but does not recommend increasing the dosage for the 12%.

Then the 4x strength of the 6% matches the 12% mix at her sisters site for small birds.

But the mix ratio for the 6% appears to be the large bird mix.

You are right, figuring this out is confusing.

On some of the instruction it does say you can even increase the 12% 2.5 times. The double dose was recommended by JoAnne from ladygouldian.com in California.

The 6% doubled equals the 12%....the 4x's the 6% equals the 12% doubled. this is usually recommened for stubborn cases. Most the time as a preventitive 2x's the 6% or a single dose of 12%.

Actually if you look on the Morning Bird Products it is recommended to increase the powder 5 times the amount.

http://www.morningbirdproducts.com/prod ... ex_es.html
Ronex Extra Strength successfully treats motile protozoa such as Trichomonas, Giardia, Hexamita, and Cochlosoma. Add ½ teaspoon of RONEX Extra Strength to 2 quarts of clean drinking water and administer for 7 days. Use as bird’s only source of drinking water. For particularly difficult infections, increase dose to 5 times normal for 3 days then continue with normal dose for 4 days. Preventative treatments are recommended to control further protozoal infections. If bird does not improve or condition worsens, consult a veterinarian. Keep container closed before and after use. Store in a cool, dry place. One level teaspoon equals 5 ml.

Now depending on how your directions actually reads it depends on the amount you use...some of the newer bottles read 1 tsp others read 1/2....for stubborn cases where the bird is down I double it and add amoxitex to it. ...always best to ask.

Newer containers of the Ronex 12% now appear to have both the smaller but and larger bird does on it. I compared the two, an older container and the newer one. The recommendation for 2.5 times the amount was written into one of the articles iby ladygouldian.com in regards to treating difficult cases.
