Possible dissability?

Post by JustAlex09 » Sat Mar 10, 2018 10:34 am

So Bast and Sobek had another baby (only one).

So far I've noticed that Sekhmet isn't like the other babies. She's missing feathers for one, and it's not a case of Bast and Sobek pulling the feathers out so much as they just never grew in. She also can't walk. Usually by this point Bast's previous babies have been able to stand up and hop around but Sekhmet isn't. She'll hobble and belly-crawl along the bottom of the cage and sort of use her wings to help shuffle along, but she won't actually stand up. From what I've been able to see, it looks like maybe one (or both) of her legs don't extend. She certainly doesn't like to put any weight on one of them.

The not walking and lack of feathers make me unsure if this is genetic or the result of an injury. All of Bast's other babies are okay, even if 3 out of 6 of them are inexplicably solid white.

Any ideas about what might be causing this and possibly tips on what to do if baby doesn't learn to walk properly?

Flight Feathers

Baby bird I think was maybe a month old? She was doing really well and was finally figuring out how to walk.

And then she died last week. Sad day. No idea what happened, either, but I think it may have been a heart attack.

I am very sorry to hear, was this a society or a zebra finch or some other finch?
