puffed up Gouldian
Would deworming be a good thing? Can it be done for all birds in cage?
Recomnended dewormer? Amazon?
I have one puffed up gouldian that I recent got. He seemed ok the 1st couple days. Then I rehomed the adult male and he's been puffed up off and on ever since for about 2 weeks now.
I separated the society finches today because they were harassing all the gouldian and wouldn't let them fly around the cage and even when they were just perched.
He did perk up quite a bit for a couple of hours after that.
I also added more lighting above the cage.
But by early evening he was back puffed up with his head under his wings.
He is a different batch than the other 3 gouldian I have. Could he be more stressed out and lonely?
I added vitamins to the water this evening.
The 4 gouldian r now just with 1 female canary.

Re: puffed up Gouldian
What about the temperature? Birds puff up to contain body heat, so perhaps he is just cold. He could get lonely, so place a mirror in his cage and he should be checking it out soon even if he is scared at first. Please get him a companion, preferably a female, as soon as possible.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely, Cathy

I think he misses the bird you rehomed.

How many Gouldians are in your cage? And how old are they? Did you breed them, or buy them?

Re: puffed up Gouldian
I had purchased him. The person was willing to take him back since he was showing signs of being ill.
Yes I think he missed the adult. Do they need adults at this stage?
The 3 others seem ok but look like they r starting their 1st moulting. Another occasionally in the afternoon sleeps. But he too is showing signs of his first moulting starting.
With the stress of moving, the society harassing, and the moulting beginning, plus these r blue backs which I read online have the highest deaths,
Any suggestions on giving them the best food and warmth would be appreciated.
I'm not a cook and have limited hand usage, so store bought would be most helpful.
I noticed some moulting formulas include Salt but no iodine.

There is iodine in kelp granules. I got mine from ladygouldianfinch.com.

wildbird - thank you, I've ordered some iodine and other supplies from ladygouldian that I'm waiting for
I noticed that some moulting/seed bird food contains Salt that does Not have iodine
Laferber (sp?) Salt is with Iodine

Lafebers is a good food, if they eat it. Your bird may have been bonded to the bird that was rehomed. They don't have to be a pair to be bonded.

Re: puffed up Gouldian
I got my ladygouldian supplies but was very disappointed. Didn't get the iodine and the S76 came with the top opening taped with your basic scotch tape with a broken inner seal. Definitely don't want to risk giving my birds something that could have been tampered with an open seal.
Also the feeder cups came without even a plastic bag and a set had Orange spots that fortunately wiped clean fairly easily. But I certainly wouldn't order from them again.
The wormaway and featherfast fortunately have the seals intact.
I haven't been able to find S76 anywhere else. Can anyone recommend a company that ships to USA that is reliable?

Re: puffed up Gouldian
I got a very quick response, on weekend, from ladygouldian company and they said will remedy the problems with my order.
I am wondering though since I can't find S76 not even on Amazon, is this something used normally only by vets?
