Essential oil diffuser

In an earlier post I read that someone asked about the safety of essential oils. I am wondering the same thing, specifically if I can use any essential oil diffuser in a different room from where my birds are (Green singers). The oil that I want to use is a lavender & cedarwood combo, both of which I know are at least safe for dogs (3 chihuahuas sleep in my room where the diffuser would be) & not KNOWN to be harmful to birds. The diffuser that I want to use has the ability to be on and off, diffusing oils 50% of the time & would only be used 6-8 hours/day (at night). If anyone knows of an oil that is safe if this one is not, I would be interested in knowing that as well. Thanks so much for anyone who can help.
