Deformed Zebra Beak

Post by pushtoowala » Mon Apr 23, 2007 7:09 pm

I just read in another posting that someone had to trim their finch's beak? I have a zebra finch that has a weird looking beak. The bottom part is kind of overgrown above the top part. I heard someone tell me earlier that I should use a file to even it up, but I don't see how that is possible at all. The head is sooo small and I cant see how to hold it still. What shoukd i do??????? I have a cuttle bone for it but I guess it is not helping. Please help.

I trim beaks and nails regularily...for myself and others...

I gently grasp the bird in my my left hand, with it's head between my first and middle fingers...that gives me good control without pressing on the bird's breast at all...

...I use high quality (very high quality) cuticle scissors to trim the beak...always careful not to cut into the blood supply...

...for nails I use specialty bird or cat nail scissors...again, being careful not to cut into the quick...
A bird in the hand...requires some serious washing up...
