My 25 day old Java chick has a bald spot on the forehead. I am suspecting that the father plucked him. Why do you guys think this happened? What is the best thing I can do to prevent this? Are the feathers going to grow back sometime?
Thanks!

Re: Java chick with bald spot on forehead
Fathers pluck for many reasons, one of the main one being that they are ready to start another clutch and they want fresh nesting material, so they take soft feathers from their babies. The feathers should come back when the babies go thru their first full moult. You may have to remove the father till the babies are weaned, then put the babies in their own cage and put the father back with the hen.

Make alot of sense! I notice that the male gets very excited whenever he sees scattered nesting materials from nearby canaries.
