zebra hen on floor of cage...at night

I came home tonight to find my zebra hen on the cage floor after lights out, only the blue night lights on. But except for being where she normally is not, she was behaving normally and preening herself. The lack of stress actions posture make me thing that she is not "egg bound." But she did lay egg #5 this morning, so she could have egg #6 on the way. Which is why I thought she was egg bound when I saw here on the cage floor. Any ideas?

If she's staying on the floor more than usual - I would try to place a heatlamp where she is. Hopefully that will help whatever is ailing her.

Someone recently mentioned dipping a q-tip into olive oil and rubbing it on her vent.

I know you dont think its egg binding, but it sure couldnt hurt.

I went downstairs about 11 last night and she was not on the cage floor, so I figured she was in the nest.

She seems OK this morning, behaving like normal.
She did not lay an egg today, so "I think" she stopped at #5 yesterday.

Laying an egg is hard work. Labor is an exhausting ordeal. Espeially after 5 days of it Many times the hen will go to the bottom, flat resting area just to be more comfortable. Also gripping a perch takes energy that maybe she was reserving for that final push. Egg bound is easily recognizable. They look miserable... She was probably just chillin. You would understand too if you ever had to labor a baby or an egg
