SCATT reaction?
My pair of African Silverbills is taking a break from breeding. I have had the male for about 2 months and a few days ago I administered Scatt on him and his mate. The female, I have had for almost a year and she has been treated before (a few months back). Well, for some reason the male seems to have developed a lump. A small hunch almost, on the back of his neck. I only used one drop on each bird and the female is fine. Why has this happened to the male? Is it an allergic reaction? I'm slightly freaked out because I have 2 new goulds in quarentine that I was going to dose as well, but now I am scared to. What do you suppose has happened and what should I do for him???

Re: SCATT reaction?
I've been using Scatt on my finches for a few years now with no reaction ever.
Do you have a pic of him?

Re: SCATT reaction?
No, not right now. But I might be able to get one tonight when I get home. I medicated them both on Saturday, so it has been 4 days since, and it's still pretty noticeable.
I don't know if it's just bad swelling or what. He was fine before...
I have used it on my other birds as well with no problems. I am just confused and worried for him. He was a little puffed up for about 3 days after also. Now he seems to have his energy back, but the lump is still there.

Perhaps you could email / contact the manufacturer of Scatt and tell them of the suspected reaction to see if anyone else might have reported the same type of thing or if it is even possible that a finch might be allergic to the product.

Re: SCATT reaction?
When I bought him he had his full adult plumage and Ive had him 2 months on top of however old he was when I bought him. If he was only 2 or 3 months old when I bought him, could a reaction be due to his young age?

Well, I checked him this morning and the swelling has gone down considerably. I suppose when it comes time to retreat my birds, he will be secluded and I will use the S76 on him. I don't know what caused it to happen, but I don't want to risk it happening to him again. Maybe he just has some sort of hyper sensitive skin?
