My gouldian has got a cold

Post by AndreasLon » Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:44 am

Hi,

One of my gouldians failed to go into the night house 3 nights ago and slept outside in very cold weather.

He has been unwell ever since. I have put him in a hospital cage with an infrared lamp and he seems to be enjoying the heat. He was quite lively in the hospital cage but when I re-introduced him the the aviary (indoor) he appeared too weak to fly, so was promptly put back in the hospital cage.

Is there anything I can do to help him recover other than giving him heat? All my birds are being treated for air sac mites and he's also getting treated with S-76. Perhaps not ideal to do so now but I thought that he probably also has mites and this is contributing to him not being well.

I think he should do fine getting S76. It's not hard on the birds system to recieve this particular treatment. Maybe your little guy's muscles are just a bit atrophied. He might just need a bit of excersize to get his little flight muscles in shape again. How long was he in the hospital cage?

Oh. Probably just still not 100% recovered yet. Good luck and I'm praying for him to have a speedy recovery. [-o<
