He's a budgie breeder but the same would apply to finches.
Interesting article about why birds get sick, how to avoid.

Very interesting FinchBob. I wonder how expensive those specific lights are in 4' lengths or whether they come as smaller (normal) bulbs.

So i'm thinking of getting a UVB light for my bird room now because there's only a small window into that room so they're definetly not getting much uvb, if any atall.
The room is 6 foot by 8 foot in size, there's a flight in there aswell as breeding cages along 2 of the 4 walls. Does anyone know what kind of UVB light I cpuld get that would work for all the birds in the room? I read something about the light having to be within 18 inches of where the bird perches, that is impossible without having about 20 seperate lights. So I just need a light to cover the whole room, not sure what kind of strength light i'd need for that.
One I found here, but it has no specifics about how much uvb or uva it puts out, or how close it needs to be to the birds. http://www.reptilecentre.com/p4008227.htm

Found this: http://www.arcadia-uk.info/product.php? ... &sub=&id=4
The biggest one is 60 inches long, far bigger than most bird cages, designed for birds. I assume this one is designed to cover a larger area. Looking into this.
