What do you reccomend for ASM?
I have read a ton... I am pretty sure the 3.5 mth old Goulds
(5of them)
I purchased have ASM. Noticed today, some opening their mouths... and yes a slight click noise. 1st time for Goulds, don't think this is normal behavior, so Im thinking this is ASM. I need to order quickly...
What do you recommend? sounds like the water solution would be the easiest? but I want the BETTER of the two. So I am thinking SCATT? where is the best to order? I am in texas.
Thanks...
adrienne

Scatt does not go in the water - it is applied to the bird, directly on
the skin.
If you want something to go in the water - order S76. You can also Google it or do a search on it in this forum.
Good luck.

Contact the nearest online stores to you and ask how it will take them to get an order to you.

Re: What do you reccomend for ASM?
Thanks Liz... I found a place here in texas... ordered the Iverlux, I hope it ships out today, and I don't have to wait til Monday...
Anything I can do in the meantime?
Now I remember this is why I was hesitant about the Goulds... UGH...
the others I have are so much easier. I have a spice in the cage with them... Should I treat him too?
Also, have societies and java's in other nearby cages?
Thanks again...
BTW... Need any more Jiffy corn bread mix?

LOL re Jiffy Cornbread mix - I just got 9 boxes for $23US on eBay last week! But thank you for thinking of me and remembering!
I would treat every bird in my house at the same time - just to cover everyone and take NO chances of missing even 1 tiny mite. Did the website give you a delivery date? You can give them a quick call or email and ask. That's what I would do.
Keep us posted Adie!

Re: What do you reccomend for ASM?
I think Iverlux is administered via the drinking water.
So you would treat everyone in the cage.
If they are other birds near by, like in the same room, I would treat ALL of them. You don't know if the ASM got to the other cages.
When administering via the drinking water, a trick I learned was to remove the drinking water the night before. Then they are thirsty in the morning and have no option but to drink the medicated water.
And do NOT give them any watery food that day; lettuce, egg, etc. Or they could get their water from that rather than drinking the medication.
gud luk

Re: What do you reccomend for ASM?
Thanks for the tip... I read it can go on the back (neck area) of the bird... Or in the water. I was thinking the topical way would be the best, althought the water is easier. Hmmm.... just don't want them to not get enough of the meds. if its only administered thru water.
Thanks again...
will be a few days til I get it any way.
went back in there, none of the birds had the symptoms, does it come and go?
it was early this morning when I noticed. Do they yawn? Maybe they were just waking up good, and I panicked when I saw a few open their mouths. the noise I hear, is almost like a rearranging of the food (if any) that they may have? Not sure wht to compain it to. Maybe I will look on u tube...

This is NOT what the clicking is that i hear... Is this what it sounds like? If so, My birds dont have this...
My noise i hear is real faint, like moving food around in their beak or something...
if the link doesnt work, i went to utube and searched
gouldian with air sac mites.

Re: What do you reccomend for ASM?
Topical is easier if you have a few birds, like if you just got a new bird and it is going thru quarantine.
But for flock treatment, it is easier via the drinking water, then you do not have to catch ALL the birds one at a time.

Re: What do you reccomend for ASM?
The video is of a bird chirping - he may be sick with air sack mites and that's why his chirp is kind of raspy. But I don't believe that it was the sound of the clicking that you will here with ASM - I believe the clicking is more of a rattling or ticking sound as with someone with a very bad cold might make-more just from congestion in the airway?adiekaty wrote:http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... type=&aq=f

.
So I would say that if yours are making a very faint clicking sound, it very well could be ASM! (My Gramma's canary got them).
If you treat with S76 I believe you can put it in their water or apply topically, from what I've read. And it won't hurt to treat them, if you are wrong and they don't have ASM.

Treat for 2 days in a row, then repeat again for the next 2 weeks, if I recall correctly.

Re: What do you reccomend for ASM?
For just a few birds, I would treat topically. That way, you know each bird got the full dose. Just follow the directions for the brand you got, as some differ by a little.
