I couldn't really find any information on whether it is safe to give to birds feeding babies, etc. I have always thought that if your birds are inside all the time, you only need to treat incoming birds as part of their quarantine regimen, as your other birds would not be exposed to the various worms. If you have an outside aviary, or an aviary with a dirt floor, then you would need to treat on a regular basis, as those birds are exposed. Vetafarm's Wormout gel says to treat aviary birds four times a year. But Vetafarm is an Australian company, and I think the majority of finch owners in Australia use outside aviaries.

I THINK that you are suppose to treat them if you feed your birds mealworms. Even if they are inside birds.....

I also think it is safe to treat as I have always treated my whole flock at the same time twice a year.

Good point, Donna. I forget that mealworms carry all kinds of things--another reason for me to not feed them anymore!

Yes - if you are feeding mealworms, particularly live ones, you should have your birds on a worming program.

I have been asked the safety question by customers and Bill who owns Morning Bird has assured me that it is 100% safe to use during any part of the life of the bird: laying, hatchling, nestling, juvenile, adult, etc..

I used to worm my birds bi-annually and have used it on parents feeding and on parents laying and I have never had any problems with it.

I use worm away every 3 months in my aviary. Mine is outdoors and exposed to wild birds too. I have never had any issues with this med and breeding/young birds.
