That way I can always hear and see the birds any time I like. I also have 2 fishtanks in the living room and 1 in the bedroom. I can't imagine keeping birds and fish in a basement if I don't have to. I like to enjoy them at all times when I'm home...
I'm the same way. I want everything and everyone right here in the living room with me. I want my drafting table here, so I can walk by a painting in progress, to see if I need to make adjustments...I want my birds here so I can see them and hear them, and enjoy their company...I want my cat here to sit on my lap while I watch tv...and I want the remote in my hand! I want it all, and I don't want to have to leave my chair! :D (My living room is very crowded!)

I'm relieved to hear that Gouldians can thrive in close proximity of their keepers..I didn't/don't want to make the birds something they are not.
