society health?

Post by SuzE » Sat Mar 27, 2010 4:19 pm

Hi all,

I have a question. Actually two questions. My societies have runny droppings with very little solid. Is this worms or something else? They appear to be in good health altho I think they may have lost a little weight. They eat, sing, fly around and interact with each other so I don't think they are verging on death, but I probably need to be treating for something, just don't know what. Any ideas, anyone? Second question, has anyone ever seen a bird put his beak around a solid bar (in this case the bar to their swing) and push it in their mouth so far that it looks as if they gag themselves? It looks as tho he is trying to stretch his mouth opening. It looks so strange. This is from my male society who seems otherwise healthy except for above mentioned problems. Thanks for any help.

Change of diet can produce watery droppings, especially if you added lettuce or fruits to the diet. Frequent baths and preening can cause looser stools (because they ingest larger amounts of water.
The biting on the swing bar could be just playing or filing the beak.
excessive urine and weight loss could be bacteria infection also.
Here is a site with good information on poopology. The weight loss would cause me to be a little concerned.
