Rachel and Martie have said it all. Not one person here can say you didn't do your best to fix this. It's a tough decision but your family's well being and safety must come first.
Sending prayers of strength for what you have yet to endure.

Thanks Guys. I truly appreciate all of the support. My vet isn't in until tomorrow. These next 2 days are going to be awful...

Could you ask your vet to come to your house for this? Or is there a mobile vet in your area?

I am so sorry, Ginene. There just aren't words.....

Oh my God Ginene! I am just getting caught up on this thread... I feel sick, literally heart sick for you and your family... I feel like I know you and lil Joe and your birds....

You are not a bad person. You are a wonderful loving person. Your heart is so big, you have the capacity to love unconditionally and it pours out from you.

I don't think one person here is judging you. I was actually thinking I would do that before you posted it. We aren't talking about the FLU, We are talking about TB! Not to be messed around with! You are making the best decision for you and your family

I hope some day you can try and use your beautiful bird room again. Maybe give it some time, and slowly start. Maybe even just one pair... you love this hobby so much, I can't imagine you not being a fellow finch sister.

Please don't lose touch. You have my email and phone number. I will miss you so much :YMHUG: :((

Just got off the phone with Ginene, bawling my head off... this is such a truly heartbreaking situation all around. My heart breaks for both Ginene and Teresa, and I'm absolutely sick to think of all the little birds but I totally understand why it must be done. As Ginene had purchased two gouldians from me earlier in the year, my first thought was no, I must save them, I will take them back. Today I guess reality set in and I realized that this is not a wise decision. I asked her to give them a kiss for me and tell them how much they were loved.

Ginene and Teresa, I sincerely hope no harm comes to you or your family members having gone through this. That would be so much more tragic and is unbearable to even think about.

Ginene, here I go bawling again, I will miss you soooo much. You're such a special lady and I will miss your frantic calls and texts asking omg what do I do!??! LOL ... It was so nice having your friendship and I do hope that we can stay in touch and maybe get together someday. I do understand that any reminder of this incident will be difficult and therefore, maybe this won't happen. :( I am so glad I had the chance to meet you, Big & Lil Joe... please know that your family is in my thoughts & prayers for the best possible outcome in this. Give Lil Joe a hug and tell him it was a honor to meet him.

I will miss you both terribly :(

It said that birds contract TB from a TB infected owner or from contaminated soil or water. It also said that the NYCDOH has seized infected birds that owners have refused to euthanize. I guess my vet will be (or may have already) reporting these findings to the NYC Department of Health.
Did your vet ask for the names of people you got your birds from to try and track down where it may have come from and possibly do testing on their birds? Or at least recommend that you notify each seller you bought from.
Just as important to have a proper diagnosis I would think the Dept of health would want to track down the source. :?

I told her that I would notify the previous owner of Romeo and Juliet. I am not sure if Teresa made contact with the person she got them from. But I agree that it is very important to find the source. I don't know if there will be any further questions from my vet, but I will be seeing her tomorrow. My pediatrician is calling Infectious Disease tomorrow morning to discuss the situation with them. We all received skin test today, but he may want us to get the blood test too. We just got in from being out all morning and I already have the shakes. Just hearing my sweet birds sing is making my heart race...

I'm glad at least the vet and pediatrician are at least notifying the authorities, hopefully they follow through more or if nothing else have it on record should there be another outbreak.
Praying all the test for you and the family come back negative [-o<

Ginene,

Though this must be so very difficult and heartbreaking times I think you have shown great strength, compassion. To make the decision that you have made for your family and the birds was not easy. I admire you. May both you and Teresa let time heal your hearts and give you comfort. We all are praying everyone will be alright.

I just want to thank everyone for the love, kindness and support you have shown me through this difficult time and also the entire time I have been a member of this forum. You are all amazing men and women, and I will truly miss talking to you every day. I will pop in and visit from time to time, to share in your joys with your feathered family members. I hope to some day have finches back in my home, but for now I just need some time to grieve and heal. Love to you all, Ginene xoxoxoxo

I've just read the whole thread with tears in my eyes. I'm so sorry about you losing your little ones. You know I'm in process of the same - I really know how you feel. Look be strong and keep your head up. Only time will cure. You have to wait it out and it'll get better eventually... all bad memories will fade away but good cheerful moments will always stay with you...
