My white society, Pyewacket, cuddles on the cage floor with my fawn male, Bambi the tail-less wonder. When I first introduced him to the cage he couldn't get up on any of the perches without a "helper" perch he could hop up onto from the floor and use that as a launching point to throw himself - and I use that phrase advisedly, this was "falling with style" at best, not flying - at another perch or the side of the cage.

He had been kept in one of those little ornamental bird cages in the back of a Petco/PetSmart (I forget which, whichever one actually sells the 30x18x18 cages). So firstly his wings were out of shape, and secondly his navigation ability was damaged due to not having any tail feathers. So I don't think he felt at all safe or stable on a perch in the dark. Not even the low perches I'd put in for him. He spent a LOT of time on the bottom of the cage when I first got him.

Now, he happily perches anywhere in the cage, even on the highest perches, and he flies from one end of the cage to the other - in fact he will sometimes fly back and forth before he finally lands, LOL!

But they still cuddle up down in the corner of the cage at night. That may have become permanent by now, we'll see when/if his tail feathers grow back.

So there may be a society finch out there somewhere who will cuddle up with him on the floor - but with the extent of his injuries, I understand how careful you need to be introducing a second bird into the cage.

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

I am so sorry for you and your little guy. I would have been to upset to deal with the situation as well as you did. I'd have lost him long ago.

Hang in there.

In a situation like this, there is no time to get upset. You just go into automatic mode, and do what needs to be done. You figure out whether the Bird is still alive, whether it can be saved, and what's going to be the next step.

It's been well over a month now, and Max, is definitely hanging in there.

Check out Max's new home, on my new post... :D

No, YOU go into automatic mode, LOL!

I have been in a few life-threatening situations where I in fact DID go itno "automatic" mode but I'm not the person I once was. I'll just have to hope I never find out if that could still "work" for me.

I saw your post on the new domicile for your little guy. He looks happy!

Max, was happy enough, untill I dumped him on the floor....... but that's yet another post...... #-o

He's still with us , thanks to the powers that be.

Regarding going into automatic mode when the need arises, you might yet surprise yourself.

Well thank y.....

HEY! Are you getting back at me for the "tough ol' bird" remark by casting a Chinese Curse upon me???

You know the one .... "May you live in interesting times". Because that's the only way I might be put in the position of finding out whether or not I still have an automatic response!!!

I'm not Chinese, so I can't lay a Chinese curse on you, my friend.

As in regards to the meaning of that particular curse, I do believe that boat has sailed, as I think we have all been ' blessed ' with that curse a while ago, the way our world is going

As for Max, I think that he can serve as an example to all of us. That little guy is pure resilience and strength, all rolled into a tiny little broken body.
