Re: What happened? Help!!
I had a juvie do this once. . There was nothing wrong with her stool, but a definite lack of energy and being puffed. It was one day with a heat lamp and she was fine again...a few days later she started a heavy molt with lots of pin feathers. I think it's a good reminder that molting is very stressful on them and each bird handles it a little differently. I imagine the stress can possibly bring out underlying illness, but hopefully that is not the case here.

Re: What happened? Help!!
Hi Dayna....saw the post on Finchaholics. I am away w/no internet and my phone was not getting great coverage. I asked on FBk if when holding her if she had good weight to here, is her breast bone sharp.
My feeling is that possibly she became spooked, ran into the bars, perch and broke the flight feather. She may just be sore and need best and time to heal.
How is she today?

Re: What happened? Help!!
She's doing much better today
She is not nearly as puffed up and moved away from my hand this morning and even flew around a bit. There are a bunch of feathers on the cage floor so she must be starting to molt. Thank you all so much for replying to this and helping me out. Especially helping to calm my nerves...
I was so worried that it was something bad and I was too late and going to lose her.

Re: What happened? Help!!
Juvies are like kids... they can get under the weather easily because they don't have a mature immune system... but they can also bounce back because they are young.
Like a young child can get a 24 hour bug and be sosick and then the next day up and playing like nothing ever happened.
Hope all is better and it would be good to keep her warm especially if she is molting. Molting in itself can take a lot out of a bird, especially youngsters.

Re: What happened? Help!!
She is doing fantastic! I am absolutely amazed how well she's jumped back. She started going downhill so fast I thought I was going to lose her and didn't have a clue what to do. She wouldn't stay in the heat and stopped eating or doing much of anything so in a 'blind eye' attempt to help her I treated her with some oil of oregano and what would you know 2 days later you would never believe she was ever sick. It was nothing short of a miracle in my eyes. Here she is today

Re: What happened? Help!!
Just now seeing this thread - that's amazing!
Oil of Oregano has saved quite a few juveniles for me before, it definitely does work miracles sometimes.
Generally I only have to use it on a tissue to see improvement but I have used it internally when I've been desperate.
I always need to consult Lainey though on the dosage because I can never remember, and O-of-O is a very hot oil, it can burn the crop if it's not properly diluted.
Did you diffuse it/use it on a tissue or did you have to use it internally for her?
The other thing you might like is Young Living Thieves - it works great too, you only diffuse it though, I never used it internally.

Re: What happened? Help!!
I saw you on the essentials group and Lainey's recommendations. I was hoping you would try the holistic approach... I am so glad she has made a good comeback... I think the healing prayers worked too
She looks great!!!

I only diffused it on a tissue. She wouldn't stay under the heat and was beginning to quit eating so I went on essential bird and asked for advice. I used the oil of oregano as Lainey suggested and my little girl must have known something that I didn't because she perched and stayed as close to that tissue as she could possibly get. Next day she looked a lot better and yesterday was when I took the pictures so I was amazed how well it worked! Lainey sent me an e-mail asking how she was doing. She was amazed she was still alive. She said from the pictures she did not expect my girl to survive.nixity wrote:Just now seeing this thread - that's amazing!
