Re: HELP! ABNORMAL DROPPINGS!
no, it was only in this spot. Cindy, these were from my uncles stock. I do not treat birds from him. I believe he treats with ronex, scatt, and for coccicindy wrote:http://www.mfgouldianfinches.com/Poopol ... gyPg1.html
They are nesting....was there a normal amount of droppings on the rest of the paper?
Can you see food in the dropping pile? Have you treated with any treatments when you got them?

Are these birds breeding and what did you feed them in the last two days?

Re: HELP! ABNORMAL DROPPINGS!
I did not see food in the droppings. today they got carrots, millet psrya, normal seed, eggfood, and fresh grass. Yesterday same but no millet spray. It resembles the breeding poop, yes they are breeding and have atleast one egg

Re: HELP! ABNORMAL DROPPINGS!
Guys, I have a confession. I did give them chocolate as a treat today.
I think it is not toxic for them though, only dogs. They loved it!

Um ... according to what I'm reading, chocolate IS toxic to birds.DanteD716 wrote:Guys, I have a confession. I did give them chocolate as a treat today.

http://birds.about.com/od/feeding/tp/poisonousfoods.htm
http://www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/topten.html...Chocolate poisoning first affects a bird's digestive system, causing vomiting and diarrhea. As the condition progresses, the bird's central nervous system is affected, first causing seizures and eventually death. ...
I hope they'll be okay....There are several foods that are very toxic to birds. Chocolate is digested in a different way by birds, and the metabolite, theobromide, is very toxic to them. Baker's chocolate and dark chocolate are the most toxic, and milk chocolate, although less toxic, is still a forbidden food for birds. ...

Dante...it will make them very sick, the sugar alone will reak havoc on the digestive tract. How many birds did you give this to?

What kind did you give them and how much....was it the milk chocolate or dark?

"Chocolate is a highly palatable food. Some of us know that all too well. Unfortunately, many birds seem to love chocolate almost as much as people. Chocolate is not bad for birds just because it is high in calories and fat though, it contains a compound called theobromine. Theobromine is toxic to dogs and cats as well, but birds, again due to their smaller size and more rapid metabolism, may be even more susceptible to its toxic effects.
Generally, the sweeter the chocolate (more sugar), the less theobromine present (milk chocolate contains about 1-2 mg of theobromine per gram, dark unsweetened chocolate may contain as much as 15-16 mg per gram). Despite this, no chocolate should be given to birds. Signs of chocolate toxicity include: hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhea, heart arrhythmias, seizures, dark colored droppings and death."
You need to keep you birds warm, watch for any of the signs above....make sure they have water, if they get diarrhea they may dehydrate.
