This is interesting, but a vet that i shadowed for saw birds, he was an exotic. For the birds though, they were kept in OLD baby warmers from hospitals! they used water as well to keep it humid and warm, kind of like those! i think the baby warmers might have been from the 60s but they were the perfect temp.

When I had a pair that rejected their young what I did was put them in my hospital cage. My cage has two reptile heat lamps which have a temp control to about 44.c with a damp cloth placed under lights. Birds lived for the 10hr period until I unloaded them to a mate which is exceptional at raising young. He was over the moon when I told him that the young were his as at my house they wouldn't have lived as the time is an issue that I can't be there to feed and watch temp. He uses an old chicken brooder and has never had any issues with raising any young birds or eggs ranging form finches parrots and poultry.

Cindy
If that is the same or similar heater to what I used to use.
On the right side of the pix, just above the wire is a black shaft. You turn that to adjust the thermostat. Inside the glass tube as you turn the shaft, you will see an indicator moving next to a temp scale.
That is the water temp.
The air temp inside the inner tank should be close to that, but might be slightly different.
The big advantage that has over the baby wipe warmer is the mass of the water. The water helps to stabilize the temp. There isn't any equivalent in the baby wipe warmer, so you are dependent almost entirely on the heater. The inside of the warmer holds heat to some degree, but nowhere as much as the water.
An idea I have is for the warmers that have the heater on the bottom is to put a sheet of ceramic tile on the bottom. That will act like a thermal sponge to moderate the heat. But you still have the basic problem of no thermostat on the baby wipe warmer.

@cindy It's a fish tank submersible heater in the bottom that you set to the temperature you want.
